I love the everything about this restaurant. I found it on a business trip in Philadelphia and fell in love with it. I eat here every time I get back there. The food is excellent and the prices are good I've been trying the specials when I go in and haven't had one I didn't love. Off the menu, my favorite is the Saag Paneer. I also really like the Garlic Naan. It's a small place, so I could see it being a little tight on a busy night, but I'd still go even if I had to wait in line. The staff is very friendly and the service is great.

Yummy food!

Pretty decent for Indian food on the mainline. Haven't ever been disappointed. The vegetarian selection is good and the waiters are excellent.

My wife and I came across Saffron the other day. The food was great and service was even better. I wish the website would've listed that it's BYOB. We got a great deal because we accidentally went during Main Line Restaurant Week, otherwise I would've preferred the prices be a little lower.
(4)Matt B.
I've tried Indian food from many restaurants, and I can definitely say this is the best Indian food in the area. The quality of the food is just a little bit extra. Their weekend buffet is awesome too.
(5)Sarah L.
Highly recommend! Service was impeccable and the food was the best we've had in a LONG time. Very friendly owner!
(5)Joe S.
Great place to go for lunch. Good service and good food. I had the vegetable jalfrezi and it was great everything had a lot of flavor and seemed fairly fresh. The paan was also freshly made and was perfect. Overall this was a great experience.

Staff was awesome! They really tried to make sure we were welcomed and weren't fazed at all by my screaming baby nephew. As for food... From the first taste I could see why they're Best of Philly 2015. We got three types of curry (Chicken Tikka Masala, Murg Saag, Murg Vindaloo) along with Naan and Vegetable Samosa. All good. For those who haven't tried Indian food before, Chicken Tikka Masala would be a good dish to start. Parking - There's a small lot in the back. If it's filled, street parking on the weekdays is free after 6pm.

This Restaurant has got many positives includes the location, parking, ambience and finally taste. This is a typical indian restaurant with very decent ambience and located on the road side. have been here along with my friend, we have tried the Buffet, which includes both vegetarian and non-veg. both veg and non-veg are more of a north indian style and tastes yummy. The starters are not good but chicken tandoori. Main course includes, biryani, chicken & Goat curry which are very delicious. Service is also very fast. Cost is little high though.

Thrilled with this place! When we walked in we were greeted by a very pleasant young guy who brought us to our table. He asked us right away if we wanted glasses for our beer (yup BYOB, I'm from NY so I still get excited by that). We started with potato dosa, a filled Indian crepe. Very good, 2 large crepes that came with 2 sauces. I ordered the paneer tikka masala which had great spice (I ordered it medium). The sauce was excellent but I've had better paneer. My girlfriend ordered shrimp in a coconut sauce she loved it. The rice was moist and they offered to replenish. We always order garlic naan and man were we glad we did this time. Best naan hands down! The prices were average maybe even lower for an Indian restaurant. No corking fee for the alcohol which is awesome. The packed our food and gave us more rice for the road. The service was outstanding. We will be back!

Was happy to find a spot right in front after 6pm. Meters out front and pay until 6pm. I don't know the area well incliding ease of parking, but was happy nonetheless. The decor is contemporary and clean and the waitstaff is nice. I ordered the black "buttery" lentils and spinach and cheese naan, which arrived in reasonable time. The lentils were somewhat flavorful, but not nearly as buttery and tasty as the place by my house, which is more of a hole in the wall. Note to self: reminber to go to Corriander soon. The naan was pretty bland and more chutneys would have helped. I also would have like to have seen some sort of combination plate on the menu. I was impressed with the cute pick-up order bags, very stylish, with their logo.
(3)Danita R.
My. Favorite. Indian. Spot. The service is crazy fast and always incredibly polite, but most importantly: What I won't do for their garlic naan. I know, it sounds like the sort of thing you can get at any Indian establishment, but Saffron's is the best--in house or even when I get take out. It is always a must and brings out the nom*nom happy chair dancer in me. I don't believe I've ever gotten anything that was one bite short of damn tasty. Chicken Tikka Masala, Gobi Aloo, Papari Chat, Chicken Madras ... it's always served incredibly fast, piping hot and so rich in flavors and overall goodness.
(5)Risa B.
On my way to visit a sick friend in Philly, I stopped at Saffron for a couple of veggie entrees -- gobi aloo (cauliflower and potatoes) and an eggplant dish-- to go. The $25 bill seemed a bit much but I was willing to pay for the food that warranted such glowing Yelp reviews. What I got was two pint sized plastic containers of very flavorless, bland and oily...stuff! While the Saturday afternoon buffet patrons seemed quite content with their dining in experience, I won't be back -- take-out or dining in -- to Saffron after this.
(1)Erin M.
Definitely the best Indian I've had in the main line. For the future, I'll come here instead of Tiffin. We came in during prime restaurant time, Saturday night at 6:30, but they were able to find a table for us. Next time, however, I will call ahead because it was BUSY. We told our waiter we were vegan and he efficiently told us that we probably would want to order the roti (because as per usual naan wasn't dairy free). We also ordered the vegetable samosas to start, which were delightful including the yummy green sauce that accompanied them. The gobhi aloo dish, curried cauliflower and potatoes were delicious. The baingan bharta dish, roasted eggplant, was decadent and delicious. I will definitely return and this might become one of my favorite take-out spots too.
(5)Kelly P.
Food was super tasty. Ordered two naan and two entrees (chicken biryani and chicken tikka masala) to split between three people. And we still had leftovers. Hit the spot! But we were too full to try dessert. Small parking lot in the back plus some metered street parking out front.
(4)Diane S.
I ordered take out on a few occasions and have been very happy. The garlic naan, chicken tikka masalaand malai kofta are all excellent. Prices are very fair for very good quality food.
(4)Shobitha S.
I'm a fan of Saffron. I took my coworker here for the first time and she loved it. She was concerned that it would be too spicy and she wouldn't be able to handle it, but she said her meal was perfect. I had dinner options for lunch and I appreciate that they were able to accommodate my interests. I love the vibe of the restaurant and the kind service. I had just the Malai Kofta and the rice that came with it and my coworker had Chicken Tina Masala and Garlic Naan. We really enjoyed our meals.
(4)Marvin G.
Much better than the average Indian food. Great flavors and spicing. Good service and fair pricing complete a very good restaurant in an attractive setting. Have never been disappointed with selection, taste or presentation. Always made to feel comfortable and welcomed. Menu offers wide variety of choices.
(4)Diana H.
We walked in an hour before the kitchen closed and were lucky to get a table. The place was packed! We had some papads and mango chutney, followed by chicken korma, aloo mutter and a lamb dish which unfortunately I can't remember the name of. All was delicious, the meat very soft and portions were perfectly sized. When we asked for some more rice, the waiter was happy to accomodate. He was a very friendly guy which made the dinner even better. We enjoyed eating here very much. Decor is not bad but nothing special either. Will definitely come back here!
(4)Shravz G.
Initially I was so excited to have an indian restaurant so close to home with options for both veg and non veg - their masala dosa and saag paneer were scrumptious, but in consequent visits I felt they could do much better with their quality; they gave us unwashed utensils ( u could still see the stains on them yuck) and the food was obviously heated and reheated multiple times - you could tell by the consistency- disappointed
(2)Virju P.
I'm Indian and I love Indian food. I'm very critical of the dishes and expect the highest quality, because I think my food at home is the best. WOW! Saffron totally hits the spot! They bring flavor to a new level. I've been in Philly for awhile, been everywhere (Tiffin, Aman's, all the places in 2nd/Market, UPenn area and lastly Tashan, the worse place). Saffron takes Indian Food to the next level. I love their Paneer Tikka Masala, Baighan Bhurtha, Naan are EXCELLENT. Eat here and you will love it HANDS down.
(5)Tiffany L.
lunch buffet. All kind of people, including indians, dining at the restaurant - always a good sign!
(4)Nick P.
Great place all around. Service was fast and polite. Food was great and didn't take too long. Great portions. Everything was really clean and modern. No complaints.
(4)Chiara T.
Consistent, delicious, and great value. Love this place. Great gluten free and vegetarian options
(4)C K.
I love this place so much. I love Indian food and whenever I want any I order from here. If you order from here on Mainline delivery then it's super convient and that food always makes a good day turn into a fantastic day. Never stop serving this wonderful food it makes me so happy. I love having indian food close to me. Thank you!
(5)Stephanie Y.
This was an overall solid pick up spot for Indian food in the Philly environs. Definitely not a cheap option, Saffron serves up some tasty Indian that hits the spot. Their menu isn't too crazy with options, limiting you to try some Indian staples that are done well. The chicken tikka masala was real solid. The chicken was super fresh and tender and while not cut up in your typical small bites, these were large chunks of poultry in a creamy subtle red sauce. The standout dish for me was the 9 vegetables entree with fenugreek I can't seem to find it on the online menu so, pardon my lack of the dish name but, order it. This dish was perfectly spiced with chucks of fresh vegetables and a hint of heaviness while the sauce was overall pretty light. The sag paneer was decent; I've had better paneer but, it was still enjoyable. I wasn't a fan of the kadai gosht masala. The lamb was tough and gamey and I just couldn't stomach it so one bite sufficed. The vegetable samosa is literally a potato encased in a shell and deep fried, I could have passed on it. I'd order again!
(4)Vanessa W.
I've come to Saffron several more times since my first visit, and am still impressed with the service and the quality of food. Some dishes are a tad richer/creamier than I prefer, but the taste is always very good. Even more importantly, Saffron is in my opinion the best lunch option in Bala Cynwyd. A saag paneer lunch special, for instance, comes with a salad, a side of daal, mango chutney, basmati rice, and a generous serving of creamy, nicely spiced greens and paneer cheese, and it costs $8 (a little cheaper, even, if you take them up on the 10% discount for paying with cash). Their lunch special is filling, good-quality, and affordable. I've been extremely frustrated with most of the lunch options in this area but Saffron does not disappoint.
(4)Carol L.
Oooh, the food Is so good here. Don't miss the chicken tikka masala. It is the best. Other entrees are also wonderful. Service is okay only. It's a bit dark inside. Desserts are only fair. The Indian food is wonderful so go for entrees.
(4)Michelle B.
I love the tiki masala here. This place is great. Good atmosphere if dining in, but great for take out too!!
(5)Drew X.
We have been visiting Saffron for the past several years and have thoroughly enjoyed each and every visit. My wife has a severe wheat/gluten allergy so eating out is not always easy due to lack of options and issues with cross contamination. The waiters at Saffron are very knowledgable about all of the ingredients in their dishes and surprisingly most of their food is naturally gluten free. I have visited many Indian restaurants in the Philadelphia area and so far have enjoyed Saffron the most. We typically order only their vegetarian menu items so I can't speak for their meat or fish dishes but what I have seen coming out of the kitchen looks great. All of our dishes have been served in authentic Indian copper pots which adds to the ambiance of the place. Each table is dressed with fresh saffron colored linens and a large bottle of spring water (you can get tap if you don't want to pay for the spring water). I haven't had a dish I didn't like but some of my favorites are Kadai Paneer Makhani (homemade cheese cooked with bell peppers onions, tomatoes and freshly ground spices in an authentic copper kadai) Saag Paneer (homemade cheese tossed with spinach, masala and a touch of garlic) and Navratan Korma (vegetables in a creamy cashew cream sauce). We have several Indian restaurants in our area but travel 45 minutes to visit Saffron - to us, it is that good.
(5)Erin W.
We love Saffron whether it is the buffet or off the menu the service is always wonderful and attentive and the food is always excellent. We love the variety of the buffet and the monthly specials.
(4)David P.
A regular spot for takeout for the family. The menu is a fairly standard Indian menu and dishes are well executed. It is one of my preferred Indian restaurants in the burbs.
(4)Isaiah C.
The best Indian on the Main Line.
(4)Carrie D.
Ordered takeout tonight and was pleasantly surprised. The food arrived in a timely manner. The Navratan Korma was scrumptiously creamy with a great array of vegetables. The chicken tikka masala came with an equally delicious sauce. I ordered each medium spicy and was very happy with the spice level! Not too spicy and full of flavor! Yum.
(4)Whiterock R.
this is for the buffet. It was 15 dollars for adult and 10 for a 5 yr old kid. Food was non-greasy and non-spicy so the kids could eat all of the items. Service was good. Only problem was that the dishes could barely be called Indian. My daughter was right saying the sauces tasted like pasta sauce. Seemed more catered to bland american tastes. Whatever works for the owners. wish them good luck.
(3)Aditi D.
Authentic and non-greasy food! Quick service and very clean/hygienic. Trust the chef to prepare yummy and earthy Indian food!
(5)chris m.
Above average Indian. We live in the nieghborhood and have never been disappointed with the quality. The best I can say is I've lived & eaten Indian food in NY, London, LA etc. and have no reservations about coming here. Pretty solid IMO.
(4)A V.
Generic, but very fast service. If this is your first experience with Indian food you will probably enjoy it and leave a glowing review like the ones you see here. However if you have had good indian before this will leave a lot to be desired. I am assuming all of the awards aren't from this year or last because this was very bland --- tough to do with Indian food. Try Tashan, Tiffin, or Ekta instead.
(1)Erica M.
We used to enjoy Saffron often for dinner but haven't been there in quite a while. We decided to get take-out for lunch. While the food is excellent, the portions were just laughable for the price. The chicken tikka masala lunch portion was $9 for 5 bite-size pieces of chicken. 5 pieces!!! While the flavors are fantastic and Saffron is some of the best Indian I've had, I can't justify the prices for the portions (at least for take-out). Maybe the dine-in experience is a little different given that other people have written much better reviews about their lunch experiences.
(2)Laurent W.
I definitely dislike their food, it's so bland and overpriced! Desi Village is much much better, and not too pricey. I will never go back.
(1)Rich S.
Saffron is the nest Indian food in town. Can't beat chicken tikka masala with garlic naan.
(5)Rick Y.
Interesting night. Where as most restaurants start you off with papad here you must pay for it. On top of that they barely give you any of the traditional condiments with it. While I wasn't looking they took our dish away while it still had some on there as well. Entrée. The tikka masala was great as it is everywhere you can't really mess that up. I however ordered the Murg Saag which in most places is green in color but here they decide to skimp out on spinach and its yellow with maybe two leaflets of spinach chopped up. Definitely not worth the time or money unless you are only interested in tikka masala.
(2)Ameena E.
The service was very nice. The spinach chicken was yummy. And the boti kabob was grilled to perfection. And the hot naans topped it off for us. The plain sweet Lassi had a homemade taste to them (no high fructose)...that was a pleasant surprise.
(4)Liana L.
Came here for dinner during main line's restaurant week! I made sure to make reservations on a Friday night incase they were packed and when we arrived it was pretty crowded with only a couple empty tables. Glad we still made reservations. We byob to this cute clean establishment and the staff were very accommodating. I ordered off the restaurant week menu - 20 bucks for an appetizer, entree, bread, and desert. Got the veggie curry as my entree. Wow what a deal! My boyfriend ordered this lamb dish and he was impressed with everything. We agreed this is def one of the better Indian restaurants we have been to in the area. What made me love this place even more is that after we left I realized I left my phone on the table. When we got to the car we drove around to the front where one of the staff was waiting for us to come back around with my phone! They were so kind! Def will be back!
(5)Steve S.
I've been thinking about going to this place for quite some time after discussing it with a fellow Yelper a while back. Well, imagine my surprise when the wife comes up to me out of the blue recently and asks me if I ever heard of this place called Saffron in Bala Cynwyd. Apparently someone at her work mentioned it to her. You know, when you marry a woman who grew up in Mumbai, and she hears about an Indian restaurant, it is guaranteed that you are going. I mean, don't fight it. Just go and enjoy. One other thing I do is question her as to whether or not the particular place we are at passed the "I grew up in Mumbai" test. That's always a tougher test. What is good to an American isn't always good to a person from India. Well, judging by the fact that she was devouring the Chicken Korma to the point where she was scooping up the last bits of the sauce out of the dish with a spoon, and that she was describing how the perfect dosa is made based on the dosa they make at Saffron being just as good as anything she ever had, I would guess this place passed the test with flying colors. For me, I loved that Chicken Korma too. Creamy and nutty is a good combo for me. I also highly enjoyed the Samosa Chaat, which is a personal favorite. The Channa Punjabi is similar to any Channa Masala I have ever had, but a little more mild. And yes, the dosa was perfect, and there aren't many places that make dosa in these parts. So why not 5 stars? Two reasons... first, I did feel the price on the appetizers was a bit overblown for the portion size. Yes, dosa is tougher to make and not very common around here, but the two pieces we got for $10 was out of whack in my mind. That's probably more of a $7 portion. Same for the Samosa Chaat. I've gotten bigger portions for 6 bucks than the 8 dollar charge here. Second, I suspect that for fans of spicier Indian fare, this place might be a little too mild for you. When I asked how spicy the Channa Punjabi was, the waiter replied "it's mild for me". This implied that for his Indian palate, the dish wasn't spicy at all, but for my American palate it might differ. Although I have gotten better with spicy food in recent years to the point where I enjoy it more, I do still have some sensitivity to spice. Well, I will report that the dish was mild even for me. This is not necessarily a bad thing because the flavor is still quite good. But if you're looking for more of a kick, this place might not do it for you unless of course you make a special request of the chef. But these things are not too bad. Overall, it was an excellent experience. It might be a place for the wife's birthday dinner sometime soon.
(4)Prasanna R.
I could have given 3. But the 2 stars is for the service, not the food. The food deserves 1 star. The Okra is nothing but - a mix of half cooked okra, mixed with uncooked tomato paste. The very first bite of it, made my taste buds cringe. I can cook better than this. The Masala dosa (which was cut into bite sized pieces) is a disappointment. I never had a good and authentic Indian food in mainline. This adds to another disappointment.
(2)Adam W.
The weekend lunch buffet is very good. They bring fresh naan to your table and have a decent selection of vegetarian and meat dishes. They have a weekday lunch menu with very reasonable prices. Overall very good Indian food and excellent service.
(5)E A.
It's nice to have Saffron as a good Indian option in the neighborhood. The staff is always very friendly and the food is good to very good, depending what you get. Personally I think their saags are delicious as well as their dosas. Three stars because they are about 15% overpriced and because last time we were there, during dinner service, the entire staff started setting up for what seemed to be a party the next day. They were moving tables, setting up serving containers etc...very intrusive while eating and unprofessional.
(3)Ashley G.
Saffron is my favorite restaurant in this area. I love Indian food that is flavorful without being overly spicy. I only have ordered from the vegetarian section but I was never disappointed. There are also monthly specials which I choose from when vegetarian. Finally, no meal is complete unless mango chutney and Peshwari naan are in accompaniment.
(5)C A.
Really tasty and semi authentic. Best Indian buffet in Philly. Pricy for a lunch buffet at $15 but worth it. The chicken is pretty tender and the side sauces are to die for. Sunday the buffet is from 12 to 3 only
(4)Katie P.
I downgraded my rating by one star because the weekend buffet wasn't up to par. Their buffet is set up like a banquet with chaffers and sternos. A decent variety, but I think that making the food in larger quantities dimished the quality. For example, the tikki masla was all sauce and very little chicken. If you are looking for a great Indian buffet, I would definitely recommend Sitar India in University City!
(4)Steven B.
The wife and I stopped by on Saturday to try their weekend lunch buffet ($15). We arrived about 1 pm and there were about ten diners there. Keep in mind that this is a very small restaurant. We both agreed that the buffet was excellent. Lots of variety. Plenty of chicken, lamb, and vegetable choices. Everything was hot and fresh. The wife went wild over the vegetable korma! She declared it the best Indian dish she had ever devoured. This is an easy place to like. Great food and a pleasant atmosphere.
(4)Ben M.
Delicious! Fantastic Indian food, especially for the area. The atmosphere of the restaurant could use some helping, but with such a tasty menu and takeout options it's hard to beat this little place.
(5)Mike H.
Lamb roganjosh was very good. This is one of the better Indian restaurants in the Philly area. Small space, reasonably priced, attentive service, and good food. Can;t ask for anything more.
(4)Vinny P.
This has got to be the nicest looking Indian restaurant I've ever been to. The food happens to be very good too. I came here with some friends for a quick dinner after we realized Earth was closed on a Monday evening. I'm glad we stopped in here. Indian food is always something I'm happy to eat. Appetizers were Papri Chaat and the Onion Bhajia. The papri chaat was so damn good. The mint chutney had a little heat to it which I loved and the chickpeas and crispy wafers made me want to keep shoveling it into my mouth. Certainly nomtastic. The bhajia was nicely fried and served with the two same chutneys. It was really good but the Papri Chaat was another world. My entree was the Boti Kabab Masala and I asked for it hot. They gave it to me as spicy but not killer. It had excellent flavor. I kept fishing through it hoping for more lamb. I ended up stealing some Saag Lamb from my closest dining partner. My dish was so good that I ate it too fast and ran out of things to put on the naan. Speaking of which, the naan, both the garlic and the spinach and cheese were awesome. I'll give the nod to the garlic just because I'm partial to it. The only thing I was missing was a beer with this meal. Still, this is a really nice spot and I'm happy I came here. I can see a return trip in the future to try out their specials.
(4)Mike M.
I'm not usually one to write reviews, but after eating at Saffron 5 times I feel compelled to somehow give back to this wonderful restaurant. The food is flavorful and prepared perfectly and the workers are all attentive and considerate. If you are in the area and want some good Indian food, head to Saffron.
(5)J K.
Everytime I go back to Saffron I think I like it more. The food is consistently good (though I think it is better when you dine in than when you take it out). I always order the garlic nan, it's so light and flavorful. The tandoori chicken, chicken tikka masala, lamb roganjosh, and saag paneer are dishes that I return to. However, last night we decided to try some of the specials - and were delighted with the choices! Especially yummy was the whole baby eggplant served in cashew sauce. This item had a deliciously rich flavor and just the right amount of spice! Among ethnic eateries on the Main Line, Saffron stands out for its pretty dining room (bright painted walls and dark wood tables). There is soft music, and you can BYOB (they even have pilsner glasses if you bring beer). The dining experience feels upscale but yet you can come as you are (no need to dress up). It is also one of the places where you can generally get a table without a reservation on a Saturday night! We will be back as this is fast becoming one of our favorite restaurants on the Eastern Main LIne!
(4)Jemi J.
Friendly service however the food and overall experience is not that great for the asking prices. The servings are not traditional sized (they're so small) and they are far from gourmet to be charging so much. A lot of the food is obviouly frozen. These recipes are chain store recipes and not all that great. No Saags, no rotis, no dahls, etc... ugh, no. It wasnt terrible but it was not notable. I will not be returning.

Re: other fussy elitist reviewers - one star?? I'm not sure what one star Indian food would taste like, but this surely isn't it. I went on a Friday night and found most everything about Saffron to be first class. I arrived at Saffron expecting the place to be small, and indeed it is not large, but they have done a very nice job with the decor. One thing missing was some authentic Indian background music, but as it was the place was noisy enough that you probably couldn't have heard it anyway. C'est la vie. As others have noted, the food arrives piping hot from the kitchen. Portions could have been larger for some dishes - in retrospect I realize I received Vegetable Samosas instead of the Samosa Chaat that I ordered - $8 for 2 didn't make sense at the time. The Onion Bhajia was a typical Indian appetizer, though very tasty. For bread, the Garlic Naan we ordered was excellent, while the Peshawari Naan - with cashew, raisins and dried coconut - was a really nice compliment to the spiciness of the entrees. For our main dishes we both ordered lamb - the Boti Kabab Masala came in a small bowl and I initially thought it might not be enough food, but it turned out to be plenty. The presentation looked more like a soup, and there was plenty of sauce, but as it turned out plenty of meat as well. I am not sure how to describe the taste other than fairly traditional and not too spicy, a somewhat tomato based sauce - in any case I enjoyed it. The other main dish was Lamb with Turnip - a special that day - a more standard presentation with potatoes, lamb, and sauce - honestly this dish to me tasted not too much different than the other, so maybe we could have ordered more wisely for the sake of variety. For desert we had to have the traditional Ghulab Jamun - good, but more than two would have been nice - and Mango Kulfi ice cream, which was another special that evening. I was pleased by the the bright and modern decor, the attentiveness of the waiters to refill our water glasses, and the size of our bill - and I am glad I don't have to go downtown to have a decent Indian meal. (To be fair though, for the price, Tandoor India does give you somewhat larger portions, and I doubt I will stop being a fan of theirs any time soon.) I will definitely be returning to Saffron in the future. As Alton Brown would say, "good eats".

Armed with a LivingSocial deal, we sampled a variety of dishes. Based on Yelp recommendations, we started with the Papri Chaat, which was awesome - refreshing combination of delicious flavors. The Masala Dosa was also good although the potatoes could have had a little more seasoning. The entree dishes were good, but not very large. The Chicken Vindaloo had tender meat, but surprisingly didn't have searing spice - it was more manageable. The Malai Kofta was fabulous with a nice consistency and a delicious flavor - I hadn't ordered before, but would certainly get it again, especially at Saffron.

Excellent Indian food. If you like a little spice or a lot, they can accommodate. I converted two people who weren't Indian food fans by taking them to this place. Middle of the road pricing, service was a little slow during lunch...but good was excellent.

They advertise that they are open until 10pm but they will not seat you after 9:20pm. Boo hiss...drove home so hungry.

While I see a few reviews that are negative, I cannot understand 1 star for the place in the reviews. I went to Saffron expecting a somewhat average experience factoring in the whole set of Yelp reviews, but was more than pleasantly surprised. While there was not a significant amount of "hot" factor, the flavors and spices were more the adequately displayed in the Garlic Naan, Lamb Vindaloo and Chicken Dosa that I had. Each had a more than ample serving size and was piping hot when it arrived. Service was pretty hands off and not much follow up once the food arrived, but fortunately it didn't need any additional attention. I do like the place, a little out of the way, but would return and recommend to others.

Suspicions confirmed, this is now my go-to place for delicious Indian food. It gets pretty busy around dinner time, so generally I get it for take out, or hit up the brunch buffet on the weekends. Everything is fantastic, but the kheer gets a special shout-out. I dream of their kheer.
(4)B K.
Good upscale Indian food. Nice, strong flavors and a great atmosphere. Will definitely visit again.

Wow - much better than King of Tandoor. We had a very inexpensive ($8-$9) lunch today at Saffron. What a pleasant place. The saffron colored decor with black accents, the delicious Chicken Tikka Masala, the Mango Lassi - everything was great. 2 very nice tag-team male servers. They even made me a poori (not on the menu) and my friend had a scrumptious garlic naan. Fresh and wonderful! Can't wait to try it at dinner time.
(4)Krishnan I.
Quality of food varies from time to time. The samosas they serve are generally very good. Their dosas are very greasy. The quality of dal has varied from mouth watering to disastrous. The buffet spread is small for the price.

Excellent

What a great place. Their food is great and through the bi-monthly visits, we have found our favorites. When ever we are looking for an easy place to get good food Saffron is the easy answer. Bring a bottle of white wine (Rieslings go well). You wont be disappointed in the reasonable price, and the good food.

Reached there at 2.45 for buffet lunch. They told me buffet was closed and allowed me to order dinner menu. Ordered Lamb Boti Kabab and my wife ordered Chicken Vindaloo. My wife got a chicken curry that was sweet and made from possibly left over stuff from the buffet with a hair in it. Vindaloo is supposed to be made with hot and spicy ingredients and vinegar etc. I got a Kabab with large chunks of under cooked meat. they served us the food and started clanging dishes sweeping the floor and making a lot of noise. If they preferred us to leave I would have gladly left without being harrassed with poor food and noisy restaurant. Their claim that they are open from 12 to 10 does not mean what it says.

This place is so new, the google street view still shows the address with its previous occupant. It's so new we couldn't get a reservation earlier than 830 on Saturday night. Oh yeah, well this place is so new... you should try it out =) The decor is very comfortable, soft colors, and didn't feel cramped even with every table full. The service was very friendly and pretty fast. The prices are pretty good too; I wasn't too sure at first because, with a big plate of basmati rice for the table, each dish arrive in a deceptively small copper pot, perfect for sharing/sampling around the table. Between the four of us we had vegetable samosa, four entrees, two kinds of naan, and plenty of leftovers for lunch the next day =P
(4)Denise P.
They watched me eat the whole time as if to push us out the door and after only a half hour they told us they had to fold up our table and asked us to leave. I will never come back here.
(1)Zachary W.
Best Indian food on the main line. BYOB and every dish I've had is very flavorful and delicious. My favorite is the Vegetable jalferzi extra spicy.
(5)Bizz M.
Now I think I've had the food from Saffron about 30 times in the last 2 years and have yet to step foot inside the restaurant. How you ask? We are lucky enough to be in geographical range for a little service called Main Line Delivery. Basically they offer delivery service for places that do not have delivery service. There you go. You don't have to thank me for filling you in. Anyway, we get food from Saffron way to often. Its great. We have never been let down by the food in all the times we have had it knock on our door. We have tried everything on the menu and about the only thing I'm not a fan of is the Ghulab Jamun. There are like soggy donuts and I don't like rose water. My favorite thing on the menu is the Lamb Roganjosh. I could eat this every week...oh wait. I do. We even tried Tiffin when it opened around here to see how it was. Nah. Not even close. Saffron was the winner by a mile. One of these days we will actually get off our asses and go to the restaurant, but until then, I will enjoy sitting on my couch while eating the Indian goodness.
(5)Stephen S.
Consistently delicious food and friendly, attentive service. I especially like the masala dosa (waiter Jeeson suggested I add chili powder to spice it up a little for my tastes and it was FABULOUS!), garlic naan, shrimp tikka masala (shrimp always cooked perfectly), and gulab jamin.
(5)Brian P.
I have been going to Saffron a few times each month for the past two years. This past week will have been my last. Seconds after our dishes were placed on the table, a live roach crawled out of my lettuce and stared me in the face. After yelling for the server to come over so I could show him the roach, he seemed very embarassed and tried to say it came from the window sill. Fortunately for them, we were the only table in the restaurant at the time, and no other customers had to witness this. Unfortunatly for them, my whole office has boycotted Saffron as a lunch destination. Saffron looks nice inside, and even the kitchen looks clean from a distance, but looks can be deceiving. There is no excuse to have a live disease infested roach with your meal...Saffron = FORGET IT!!!!

Great food . i come fom a family of restaurant owners , so i kinda -sorta know the whole shebang . Pros - lamb kofta is awsome ! , best murg chole out of new york . biryani is good . all and all the food is good . good , clean & heavy indian food . north indian food is usually heavy . cons - didnt find any . kinda expensive but you get what you pay for .

Indian food has arrived on the main line. If you told me there would be a good restaurant on the main line when I was a little one, I would have laughed at you. It was Hymies and Murrays and THAT WAS THAT. I've been to Saffron now, 3 times and now its time to talk a little about it. Are you ready? That's nice. Let's go. First. The location is incredibly clean. The parking lot in the back is amazing. Seriously its one of the best parking lots in north america. ( OK , readers of my sang kee review will enjoy that one ) OK, nonsense aside here are some thoughts. Saffron , successfully manages to bring a decent taste of India to the main line. Is it incredible Indian food? No, is it good Indian food? Yes. To put it simply after living the last 24 years in NYC i do not think of Indian food as being expensive or fancy. Couple that with a ton of experience of eating proper curry's in London and you can maybe see where this is going. A truly filling Indian meal should cost 8 bucks and be really satisfying and served in a room replete with christmas lights and NO space to eat. Sorry , that's just how I see it. Now, having said all of this I have to say , its really refreshing to come to a place such as Saffron and have SOME SPACE!!!! , Finally......and no christmas lights. Its about time. Its clean , modern and the bathroom is literally one of the cleanest on the main line and that includes my own! ( I clean it 3 times a day ) Ok, lets get down to the nitty gritty The curry is good, not amazing, but good. The breads are very good. I suggest the potato naan. I loved the Alou Mutter , was basic and to the point. The Malai Chicken is really juicy and GREAT for kids. Just tangy enough and interesting enough but not complicated for a less discerning palette. The Yellow Lentils in Curry are nice as well. The staff is really super nice. Very mellow and helpful. I really enjoy this. Its always a pleasant non rushed meal at Saffron. Go there now, seriously. GO.............stop reading.......GO! Kudos to the owners for having the moxy to open an Indian restaurant on the main line and giving me some more selection than the really boring food out here. WOOT WOOT!
(4)Sharlenne S.
I have been to Saffron 3-4 times during lunch hours. The place always amazes me with the mustard colored walls and the delicious smells coming from the kitchen. The lunch specials are unbeatable. For a very comfortable price you get a salad and a main course accompanied by a little bowl of a "soup" that looks like lentils (although I seriously doubt it, but it's beyond good). The naan is not expensive and works great when dipped with any of the entrees. Portion sizes for lunch are great, leaving you just satisfied enough. I hear they become much larger at dinner time. Lamb tikka masala is my to go dish, but I've tried all my friends' food and they never disappoint. The staff is very attentive and the service is quick but never rushed. Perfect little spot for a relaxing lunch.

Good choice for Indian in the suburbs. I live in Philadelphia so tend to stick to the places around here, but was on my way back into the city and decided to get takeout. $14 for Chicken Tikka Masala is a little expensive, but it was very good. Unlike some of the places in the city, the entree did not come with dal or naan. The flavor, though, was spot on, and reminded me of some of the best Indian food I've had, in New York City. Really great blend of spices. I'm curious to check out their lunch specials. Seems to be a much better deal!
(4)Momm Z.
My friend and I went there for dinner last night and the reviews were spot on. The service was prompt and friendly. 7pm and there was a mix of patrons, kids too. The lamb korma, my personal fav was amazing as was the garlic naan. Excited to find a more tasty Indian kitchen on the Main Line and hope your meal is as yummy as our was.

First off, I am no connoisseur of Indian cuisine. I have eaten it for years in many cities across then U.S, and Canada and in the homes of Indian friends, so I have tasted a fair sampling of how most of the common dishes are prepared. Saffron is at least average if not somewhat better-than. We typically pick up stuff to takeout (Vindaloos, Tikka Masala, Kormas Roganjosh, etc. I compare them favorably vs. Tiffin, from whom we also get delivery from time to time. My whole family went to the buffet today. There was a nice assortment of condiments, main dishes included Tandoori, Tikka Masala and another similar chicken dish, curry fish, some veggie stuff and a soup. Fresh hot Naan was brought to the table right out of the oven. The dishes were diverse enough to make for a pleasant lunch. Nothing was too spicy for the kids. For the $15 /pp they might have put out a lamb dish as well. As it was, 70 bucks for a four person (two kids) lunch is a little more than we typically spend on a given Sunday (as we usually eat lunch out on Saturday as well..) It adds up with one starting college next year ... We may have done better going a-la-carte when all is said and done.

i completely agree with Rohan, this place does not deserve the 4 stars, not at all n am sure most of it is due to no true knowledge of what India food is all about...... With a name like Saffron, which is one of the most aromatic spice in the Indian cuisine, I am sorry to say that the food at Saffron lacks spices n most of all fresh herbs.... come on no Indian dish is complete without the garnish of fresh CILATRO. Indian food is known for it's spices, a lil heat, a kick of the chilli pepper n yet ........ it was all lost somewhere far away from this place. We had ordered the Goan shrimp curry with Peshawari naan, since a lil sweetness of the raisins from the paratha would be perfect with the spicy hot shrimp curry, but to our disappointment, the curry was all sweet, felt like some coconut sweet soup n the paratha, well we didn't hv to order any desserts since it made for that. It was also served with basmati saffron rice where u had to search where the saffron had disappeard. The bhindi do pyaaza with the garlic naan was much better, at least it had the right spices...... The service lacks the enthusiasm, maybe cause we went lil late, but still no reason to make the customers call out again n again for water or even the menu. Overall...... a total waste of a wonderful name like SAFFRON. It is truly sad that a place like BINDI, though a fusion Indian BYOB is far toooooooooo good than Saffron Indian kitchen. A definite NO-NO!!!!!

Indian food can be a great choice for people who can't do the gluten, and since many of the (super nice) servers here are doctors and/or medical students, they are unusually helpful and understanding. Appetizers: the onion bhajji are dredged in chickpea flour. Awesome. "This reminds me of that onion they have at Texas Outback," commented my dad. Many of the entrees are also gluten-free but obviously ask first. I have enjoyed the chicken chutneywala, the fish curry, and the chicken tikka masala. The naan, samosas, and my favorite dessert, gulab jamun, were all delicious back when I could still eat them. The saffron/black color scheme is warm and inviting. As others have noted, the dining room does get loud at peak hours. There's now a second room that just opened in the back so that might ease the crowded/noisy factor.

Great place, good food, reasonable

Iam very sorry because I love Indian food but I went into here on a Sunday and was pleased to see they had a buffet so I tried one of everything and it pains me to say it all was not good.I wanted to love something I wanted something with heat I wanted a samosa to rave about but didnt get it.All kidding aside the food was not good or bad it basically was flat, boring and lacking flavor and imagination. The buffet had a large variety of things to choose from and all I got was bored. If you want a fine Indian restaurant I would suggest Laxmi's on Main street in Manayunk which has outstanding vegetable samosa's.Iam sorry but I will not be back here

*Takeout Review* After a busy weekend we had no energy and 8 people to feed Sunday night. For around $100 we got 2 orders of Chicken Tikka Masala, 1 Goan Shrimp Curry, 1 Lamb Korma, 1 Gobhi Aloo, 1 Saag Paneer, 2 Vegetable Samosas, 1 Tandoori Chicken, 1 Garlic naan and 1 Peshawari naan, and more rice and chutney than you could shake a stick at. It was hot and satisfying and there was plenty left over for the week's lunches. Pros Price - mucho affordable Quality - I usually wait a day to opine on Indian food for the reason that obvious quality (which Saffron has) isn't always so obvious. I usually accept a little funk like gristle in the Chicken and Lamb when it comes to Indian, but was really happy to not find any such nonsense with Saffron. Speed- it was hot, ready and waiting in 30 minutes just as promised Volume- so much food. Cons If pressed, I'd resort to something like lack of originality, but really, that's not what you're looking for here and otherwise it completely delivers.

We had a guest in town with a craving for Indian food and discovered this newly opened restaurant nearby. We were caught unaware by the BYOB, but the tasty food more than made up for any lack of cocktails. The service was very friendly and attentive, and we loved the short list of seasonal dishes in addition to the regular menu. I thought the garlic nan was delicious with a both a flaky & chewy texture. My lamb could have had a bit more zing, but the flavors were fantastic. Our guest's chicken was *very* spicy, but he ate every bite! The main drawback was the noise. It's a fairly small space with very poor acoustics - it felt like every sound was reflected and amplified at least 10x over!
(4)William G.
The Saffron Indian Kitchen is consistently excellent. The menu has lots of interesting and flavorful dishes. Apart from the food, I like that the service is consistently polite and attentive and that it is BYOB - so the bill doesn't get out of hand. The ambiance is pretty average and so I kept my rating to 4/5 stars.
(4)Rohan G.
Reviews of this place are inflated due to main-liners and students with little to no knowlege of Indian food. Where do I begin? The samosas are not flaky at all, the dosas are soggy, and there is way too much oil and cream overall. There are so many better options in Philly that I can't imagine why any person who knows a roti from a naan would come here intentionally.
(1)Dame V.
Yum! After having lunch here today, I hereby declare that this is the best Indian restaurant in the area. There was only one vegan meal available, but luckily, it was good. I loved the combination of dishes they put in the lunch, and the food seemed less greasy than elsewhere.
(4)Charles R.
Good portions, good service and prices are very reasonable. I like Indian, but don't know that much to comment on the individual dishes. Lamb chops were very good, plenty of Naans. BYO, street, parking, take all plastic.
(4)Pamela G.
Wow! I'm not even a fan of Indian food (and confess that this review is written from a strictly take-out perspective as I have only had their food delivered by Main Line Delivery - try it; no delivery fee!!!). Really very good food. I've tried two separate chicken dishes (including Chicken Tikka Masala) - loaded w/ wonderfully tender chicken, served w/ nice, fluffy rice. All the breads were great. Lovely samosas. Granted, my perspective is from a non-Indian food lover, but, for cuisine on the Main Line (which is notoriously bad), this is great stuff!
(5)Steve S.
Have eaten here a bunch of times since they opened and have never been disappointed. The service has always been pleasant, although sometimes it can be a little rushed and impersonal. The food and flavors are always excellent. The prices are reasonable too. Nice byob to have in the neighborhood.
(4)Sarah R.
So I guess I won't be going here on date night anymore. My boyfriend swears he got food poisoning after our last visit here. And since he didn't get anything different than he usually does, I'm inclined to believe him. So when I suggested Indian food the other night he said "I'm not going to that one place again." So that was that. Which is frustrating because up until that point, he really liked it and thought it was better than Tiffin. The service is definitely better than Tiffin but I guess we will have to find another Indian place in the area. Any suggestions?
(2)Tough C.
The only dish I really liked here was chicken tikka masala. Had dish with same sauce last time that tasted like pure tomato paste. Won't return.
(2)Jessica P R.
came here for dinner on a friday night. the place was packed. i noticed a few tables were reserved, and learned that you can call ahead to reserve one. the wait was really quite short to get a table, but once we sat, we sat for a while. once we put in our orders, our appetizer came out in less than ten minutes. it was piping hot as other reviewers have mentioned. the actual meal came probably thirty minutes after the appetizer, which is too much time in my opinion. meals were hot and delicious though. the food was great and reasonably priced. the fact that it's byob helps to keep the bill small as well. service left a bit to be desired (think this was mainly due to how busy the restaurant was), and the restaurant was incredibly noisy (prob also b/c of the busy-ness). i would recommend this place, but not on a busy night.
(4)Jennifer S.
I disagree with some other reviewers that this is some sort of Anglo-ized Indian fare. Chicken tikka masala - delicious. Biryani - moist and yummy. Overall, well balanced, fresh, and tasty. I highly recommend.
(4)Ted E.
This is 3+ stars. Very good Indian food. BYOB - although sometimes hard to match wine with Indian. Love the dosa. Nice staff. Sometimes a bit noisy. It is good to see this place busy. We needed a good neighborhood Indian restaurant. This is reasonably priced.
(3)Alyson B.
I love this place! I just moved to the area from NY, where good, cheap Indian restaurants abound. My husband and I agree that this is our new favorite place in either state. The majority of our visits have taken place on weekends because we enjoy the variety of the buffet so much, (which is always delicious, fresh, and regularly replenished.) We've gotten takeout through mainlinedelivery a couple of times and portions are very generous and come piping hot with a variety of chutneys on the side. We went once on a Friday and were a little overwhelmed by the loud, (apparently satisfied) guests in every seat. I actually feel that the ingredients in the buffet have been way better than the food we had that night, but maybe it was just because it was seriously hopping and the kitchen ran out of fresh veg? Either way, the food is good, a liiiittle on the pricey side, but worth it!
(4)Narberto R.
I have been to over 20 Indian restaurants in 5+ cities, this is one of my favorites. Great food, great service. I always think it is odd when people complain that certain food is not authentic, and irritating when they attribute to lack of experience of others who do like it. Certainly not all people in India eat a given plate in the exact same way. The food here is great, the service is extremely friendly, and the location pleasent and with parking. Add low prices and you have a total winner.

"let's go out to dinner and see a movie" - phish youtube.com/watch%3Fv=lf… ok, ok...it may be quite commonplace, the whole dinner & a movie thing, but it's not something i do often. and when it does happen, i inevitably get this very repetitive phish tune stuck in my head. hearing that song while listening to some live phish today in turn reminded me of a recent dinner & a movie outing. the movie, away we go, was playing at the bala theater. other than hymie's, i wasn't too familiar with bala cynwyd eateries, so i consulted my good friend yelp and found the reviews for saffron. sold! the dining room is simple and small, tables covered in welcoming saffron colored cloths, walls in a matching yellow shade and adorned with contemporary food photography. the restaurant was quite crowded, a good sign for a saturday nite, and we were thankfully seated promptly. service was a little less prompt as we were given an over abundance of time before someone came to take our order, and water glasses weren't filled as often as i'd like/need with indian cuisine. a pitcher of water left on the table, like at new delhi, would be a good idea here, if not for the lack of room on the 2-top tables. the food did come out timely, however. first up was the papri chaat (think indian style nachos, just soupier) and samosas (one of the best i've ever had!) next was the malai kofta and saag paneer, two of my absolute favorite dishes, both of which were well-prepared in my non-expert opinion, based merely on my years of experience eating these dishes in other restaurants. in fact, the malai kofta was so creamy and nutty - probably the best i've ever had as well. we also ordered a side of the mint paratha, which complimented our meal quite nicely. portions are deceivingly small when the authentic metal serving dishes are placed upon the table, as we both ate til we were full yet still managed to pack up leftovers. i'd really love to get back here again soon to try more dishes. perhaps i'll host a suburban indian UYE here one day...hmmm... what do you think, jim??
(4)Lauren C.
I have never eaten in the dining room, but I have done takeout a few times. Probably not as good as some of the indian food you can find in the city, but I enjoyed it. I remember one of the times I ordered the kofta dish and it was good - a sweet sauce with vegetabledumplings. The breads there are also good.
(4)Diane K.
The food is consistently very good. Food comes out quickly and the courses are well paced but the servers are not friendly, almost irritated. They try to take the order within a moment of being seated and check back a little too frequently to see if you are ready to order. The same goes for clean up. They begin clearing the table before everyone is finished. Clearly not a place to kick back and relax. That said, I'm sure I'll go back but wouldn't mind being greeted with a smile :)
(3)Debbie G.
(I really meant this to be more like 3 1/2 but I couldn't get it do the half!) Decided to go there on a hungry whim one random week night since hearing about it through word of mouth. And given the fact that it is named after my favorite spice, it was definitely a must try. My fiance and I were starrrrving when we got there, so we got the first thing on the menu that caught our eye which was a special - the Samosa Chaat. A very interesting merge of flavors of two popular indian apps. The saucy and crunchy combo of textures made for a pleasant bite. For the dinner courses, we had the Goan Shrimp Curry and the Rogan Josh Lamb. The shrimp curry sauce was deeelish - very creamy, not too spicy, and went very well with the saffron rice. The lamb was tender and rich, but there was no 'wow factor to it. It tasted a lot like my mom's which is good, but I guess I expected something extra being at a restaurant. The meal couldn't be complete with raita and naan on the side, and we decided to be a bit more adventurous and tried out the spinach and cheese naan. WRONG choice - it had waaay too much going on, very greasy, too flavorful with the rest of the dishes we got. I did like the venue, it was simple, yet bright and welcoming. The dishes were definitely overpriced for how much they gave. However, I would certainly venture back perhaps at a lunch time hour!
(3)Shannon C.
I am not ashamed to admit that I am addicted to Saffron. The saag paneer is so good and ridiculously affordable if you get the lunch special. The garlic naan is the best I've ever had and I may or may not have fantasies about it during my lunch break at work. The servers are really kind and full o' sass. I think they are always slightly surprised by my excited-to-eat-at-Saffron dance when I enter the place, but I'm sure they'll get used to it soon since I seem to keep coming back for more.
(5)Michelle G.
I wish that I could give this place 3 and a half stars because this place is not bad, but I honestly can't. Don't get me wrong, the food is pretty good, I always get Chicken Tikka Masala or the Chicken Murg Adraki for my main course and for an appetizer I usually get the Chicken Kaathi Roll. They always turn out so delicious, its just i had it delivered once and I found a short, thick piece of black hair in my rice. Ever since then I just cant bring myself to eat here again. The food was always good, I just can't shake that one bad experience.
(3)Food Hound S.
This has become the Indian staple for consistent and tasy food. I would dispute other reviewers who state that there are better options when the price and service cannot be beat. Try anything and everything here, you will not be disappointed.
(4)Amanda C.
I'm a native NYer who loves Indian food and I love the food at Saffron. I ate in one time but otherwise do take out or delivery. The Tikka Masal is incredibly delicious. Love the Gobhi Aloo. Love the Nan. Only downside is that it's pricey, but it's worth it because it's so good!
(5)Amanda F.
Eating in proved to be both a blessing, and a curse. It's a very pleasant room, a cheery yellow in the walls and tablecloths, nicely setting off the crisp white folded napkins. First of all, the dining room is somewhat small, and we arrived at an awkward time. Our party of four showed up at 8pm, when the 7pm arrivals had not quite gotten up from their tables. A "15 - 20" minute wait was probably more like 30, but that was all right--the food itself came promptly and was steaming hot. The main problem that we had was with things forgotten. Our friends ordered an aloo naan that never arrived, and a mango lassi that was similarly forgotten. The naan never appeared on the check so that wasn't even an issue, but they did charge us for the mango lassi. Still, when informed that it had never been brought out, there was a pleasant apology and the check was promptly fixed. It was a forgivable mistake though, it was very busy when we sat down. My boyfriend and I split some appetizers and an entree. The papri chaat was crispy when it came out, but was gradually soggier and soggier. Still, the pleasant clean flavors were all there. We also got another appetizer that was delicious but I can't for the life of me remember what it was called... Also, the garlic naan was even better in the restaurant, served piping hot, crispy and flaky all at once. And our vindaloo, which I found a little lacking in heat the last time, more than made up for it this time with a pleasantly burning mouth. Although we were there until at least nine or so I did not get the impression we were being rushed out. A number of piping hot, steaming tandoor dishes being brought out to other tables would definitely make Saffron a place to come to again. All in all, a nice experience eating in.
(4)Utteeyo D.
Wifey and I went for their fixed lunch menu. They offer limited options on a platter. Nothing out of this world. However a welcome addition to the neighborhood. The interior is well-lit bright and welcoming. If you live in the Overbrook neighborhood, certainly worth a visit.
(3)Casey L.
I've been here several times for lunch during the weekdays. They offer a lunch menu with dishes around $7-9. It's a pretty good price for the quality and amount of food. I'm a big fan of their lamb dishes- the one cooked with apricot is by far the most tender and the sauce is very smooth and comforting. They have excellent garlic naan as well. The waiters are very nice and check in periodically throughout the meal.
(3)Shreyansh S.
#Review is for take out# We recently had a delicious meal from Saffron. An order of Murg Vindaloo and Garlic Naan was split between my girlfriend and I, and I do have to say that it was fantastic. Just the right amount of spicy, the chicken was perfectly tender, and it went so well with the garlic naan. My only complaint is that the chicken pieces were a little too big, but one can always cut them down as they eat. I think if they were smaller, they would have been even more tender and delicious. Our friends got onion and plain naan and Murg Korma, which had a delicious creamy and nutty taste. Everything was plentiful and super delicious and there are plenty of chutneys thrown in to keep you occupied. I would definitely recommend this place and I look forward to dining in.

Saffron was my introduction to Indian Food! A friend of mine at work introduced me (she was obsessed with the place by the way) and though I was hesitant and said "I don't need another cuisine in my life!!", I reluctantly gave it a try! Boy was I happy I did! The funny thing is I am one of those guys who even if I really like a dish, I will try something else just to make sure I am not missing out on something! Its like when you here "Don't Stop Believin" on the radio, you know its the best but you quickly check the rest of your pre-programmed channels just in case there is something better right? Not here..... I went once for lunch... had the Chicken Tikka Masala... and refuse to get anything else because I highly doubt it can be beat! Get some warm Garlic Naan to go along with it - the sides are different everyday but always tasty... The service is friendly... Awesome spot for great Indian food!

Everything we've ordered here has been really good (lamb vindaloo, chicken tikka masala, fish curry, naan). The sauces are complex and delicious, and I love the serving urns that they come in. Really nice decor that hits the right note between casual and upscale, and the service has always been good here as well. Dinner time on the weekends always are busy, so it's best to make reservations.

Delicious Indian food. Warm, friendly staff. BYOB. My husband and I had one appetizer, 2 entries, 2 breads for $40. Highly recommend.

Close to work so I have been here during lunch only. Good food but limited selection for lunch. We order from the dinner menu mostly which is expensive. Lamb Korma is amazing but its $18. Ok for once in a while can't spend that much on lunch everyday.

Not the best but not the worst. If your expectation is not high, you will be fine - passable. But, if you really know Indian dishes, you may be disappointed. It may be that the restaurant makes the dishes much LESS spicier than they should be (intentionally). If you want your Vindaloo spicy, you need to specify so.
